College Classes

DUAL ENROLLMENT

Dual enrollment allows high school students to take college courses for credit, offering a head start and reducing future college costs.

Requirements:

• Schedule a meeting with your counselor for approval to take college classes.
• Maintain grades of C or higher in current classes and not have earned below a C last semester.
• Maintain 95% attendance with no excessive tardies.

Students can take courses approved by their counselor to meet A-G, general education, or general interest needs. Starting Summer 2024, only classes required for Serrano graduation will appear on their transcript.

Students cannot remove a grade-level class from their schedule unless they have completed those credits before the first day of that Serrano class. They can work ahead, but not concurrently.

Exception: ECA and CSU Geology classes, taken on campus during the school day, are exempt from this policy and will all post to the Serrano transcript. 

EARLY COLLEGE ACADEMY (ECA)

The Early College Academy (ECA) allows 11th- and 12th-grade students at Serrano to take Victor Valley College (VVC) classes on campus during the school day. The program is free: tuition is covered, and textbooks are provided. Students can earn up to 20 college credits over two years, equivalent to 1.5 college semesters. These credits can count toward an associate’s degree or transfer to a four-year university for a BA/BS. Classes also fulfill Serrano's graduation requirements. To participate, students must apply in 10th or 11th grade. Those who apply in 10th grade are encouraged to stay for the full two years. If space is available, 12th graders may also join.

Requirements:

• Students should be mature enough to handle college-level coursework and material.
• They should be hardworking, motivated to learn, and committed to achieving their academic goals.
• Maintain at least 95% attendance without frequent tardies or recent disciplinary issues.
• Planning to attend college (4-year college or a community college)
• Maintain grades of C or higher in current classes and not have earned below a C last semester.
